The latest version of WordPress was released last week which fixed over 20 bugs and potential vulnerabilities. Major WordPress updates are issued on average once every 152 days, and even though there is a large active community of professionals willing to lend a hand, consumers still lag behind in keeping their WordPress installation up to date!
As you can see in the infographic above, only 7.4% of sites have updated to the latest version of WordPress.
The disadvantage of not keeping WordPress up to date is you leave your site open to security flaws in older versions being exploited. This makes your site vulnerable to being hacked! Recovering your site from being hacked and restoring your reputation can be a lengthy and expensive process so it is important to keep on top of updates.
Web Lab offers a website maintenance option that includes backing up and updating WordPress and its plugins for a monthly cost of only $50.
If you’re in need of a secure web site we’re happy to announce that Web Lab is now offering SSL Certificates with 256-bit Encryption. SSL Certificates provide piece of mind and security to your web site visitors and are an essential component if you’re selling your products online.
An SSL Certificate will also provide a boost to your search engine ranking, with Google giving a small boost in preference to secure sites.
Why use SSL? To Encrypt Sensitive Information
The primary reason SSL is used is for protecting sensitive information sent across the Internet encrypted so that only the intended recipient can access it. Information you send on the Internet is passed from computer to computer to get to its destination, there may be over a dozen stops your information takes before reaching its intended recipient. Any computer in between you and the server could theoretically see any credit card numbers, usernames and passwords, and other sensitive information if it is not encrypted with an SSL certificate. When an SSL certificate is used, the information is unreadable to anyone except for the intended destination you’re sending the information to. This protects your customers from hackers and identity thieves.
How much does it cost?
A 256-bit encrypted SSL Certificate costs just $50 per year.
How can I get one?
It’s an easy process, you only need to navigate to our SSL Certificate Enquiry form and fill in your details and we’ll organise everything for you.
Thor World Travel came to us last year and asked us to come up with a vision of what their web site could do. One that would enable them to pass on and showcase the vast history of knowledge, talent and expertise their consultants possess to their clients visiting the web site. We’re happy to have worked with such a great team that were committed to getting things right and providing the highest quality content and willing to listen to our ideas and allow us to help them execute a vision.
We wanted a website that was contemporary, simple, sophisticated and aesthetically appealing and of course affordable, one which ultimately gave us control to make creative content and photographic changes whenever we required. Matt and David at Web Lab, provided a great platform for us to have such an website.
Throughout the development process, from the initial layout idea, adding graphical elements, technical advice to choosing fonts, Matt has been extremely helpful, patient and professional at all times. We are very pleased and proud of our new website and by the positive feedback we have received so far, so are our clients. Thank you and well done! Andrea, Thor World Travel
